If it is files that you cannot access when in the new
install, it is likely due to NTFS permissions. To resolve
this you need to Take Ownership of the inaccessible
filesystem areas. Using the repair version of the registry
from the prior system will not have any effect on these
filesystem permissions. What you would end up with
if you used those repair files depend on when you last
caused them to be updated in the old system. They will
likely carry much in the way of references to installed
programs that are not in the new system, and you might
get into drive letter problems if the two builds are installed
into separate partitions, and if they are not in separate
partitions, then you will get into some problems with one
being at .\Windows and the other at something else.
