Migrate domain user to workgroup/local user

I need to remove my XP computer from a domain and not
lose the user settings and installed programs. I don't
see how to copy a domain profile to a local user profile.

The help on join a workgroup says that domain accounts
will be disabled when you leave the domain. Can I enable
a domain account or convert it to a local account? Will
the account still be usable?
