Hi all. I am a relatively new user but have not been able to find any
information in new users NG (or any NG with search for that matter) about
this.
I am using AVG free virus scan software from grisoft.com which seems to be
working well with regular automated scans and OE plugin. Today I checked
the log file and found that AVG scanner was unable (on each attempt) to
access some areas of computer. Here is example:

I am thinking that any active virus on my computer would be found by AVG in
program files etc., but wouldn't any pre-activated virus (say one that does
its deed on re-boot) basically be a file I would have downloaded into a user
space? Shouldn't I want my AV software to scan these files? Clearly these
files are security protected. How can I work around this to have them
scanned? side note: free version does not offer ability to manually scan
specific hard disk files/folders; only removable media may be manually
scanned.
Also, what is this?? E:\HIBERFIL.SYS and what about scanning sys.log file?
Necessary?
Not terribly computer brilliant, but managing so far :-)
Many thanks in advance,
Deborah
