Microsoft Update Creates Login Password Error

HELP! Our church's minister downloaded some sort of
Microsoft UPDATE on his Compaq XP Home machine and now
when he goes to log into windows it does not recognize
his password! And of course his sermon for tomorrow AM
is stuck on the machine! Any ideas? Please help.
