cannot run norton or task manager

I have remote users using XP home and I went to upgrade
their norton from 2002 to 2003 and it did install. However
when I go to run the program it will start up and
disappear. I downloaded the fixblast.exe from symantec
and saved it to the desktop. I then ran it and it started
and soon disappeared also, the fixblast.exe vansished as
well. I even tried running the exe from a floppy and it
disappeared from the floppy. When I hit ctrl alt del or
right click the taskbar to bring up the task manager I
cannot do that either. This is the strangest thing I have
ever seen. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
