Trouble installing software

I've had XP home ed. about 1 1/2 yrs. I've not had
trouble with software installations until recently. I've
got all the current critical updates and use DSL with an
onboard ethernet and PPPoE adapters. It's the only
computer in my home and connected to the net. I have five
partitions on my hard drive. I had Norton System Works
2002 and started to lose access to some of it's anti-
virus components after using the tweak u.i. power toy. It
had some remote access registry prevention tweek I may or
may not have enabled. All I know is error messages
started to appear referring to others being logged on to
my computer and not having administrative rights to
remove or add software the past month or so. I removed
the tweak U.I. toy. Here's the problems/symptoms: If I
right click on a program and use the run as... a box
appears with me as the user and asks for my password to
get administrative rights. I do so and it either accepts
it but doesn't complete the installation or claims I have
entered an invalid password. I've removed my password in
user accounts and the one for administrator, too. The
welcome screen will sometimes appear with a password
needed. I recently decided to update the NSW2002 to 2003.
I had quite a bit of trouble removing and installing it.
I turned off it's password protection component, too, but
I see in administrative tools events viewer that it's
being sent signals turning on and off. I disabled it but
it returns to it's previous state. I went into the
registry and took permission to get full control of all
hives, trees, and keys. I still have trouble. I just
uninstalled and am trying to reinstall my HP All in One T
Series. It uses unsigned drivers and worked fine until
this trouble began. I get an error that the RPC server is
unavailable and the class installer stops the install. I
get a box with a message of a kernal fault caused by
ktchnsnk.exe an application I find in the HP driver
install pack. The RPC is working and there are no events
reported other than the one just mentioned. Any ideas as
to what my problem is? How do I properly set up my system
for DSL internet access as configured and not have the
computer assume others are on a network? It's ID'd as a
workstation on the MSHOME domain. Is this correct? I
tried to change it in computer properties but I could
only change the name, not the Domain. Things are getting
worse. Please help. Thank you.
