My friend's machine having win.xp (prof.) got effected by
blaster (shutting down in 60 sec.). I've enabled ICF,
then another error message on RPC service popped up. Then
we disabled RPC service to get rid of that error. Now it
is not detecting modem itself. I tried to remove the
worm with the help of a tool from
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf
/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html. But the 2 pre-
requisites - temporary turn off of System Restore option
and change First failure, Second failure, and Subsequent
failures to "Restart the Service" in RPC service
properties could not be carried out. When I tried to
start the RPC service, the error 'the service cannot be
started on local computer or dependency group or service
fail' is displayed. Same is the case with Telephony
service. PLEASE HELP ME.
