control alt delete

I recently tried to abort a program loading and could not
get it to stop with the famous control alt delete. So, I
shut everything down and rebooted.From the desktop I tried
to bring up the box and got nothing. I even brought home a
different keyboard. When I press the contol alt delete
keys I get nada, zip nothing. what gives?
