This is what I was told to do:
First you have to enable your firewall:
Go to: Start
Go to: All Programs
Go to: Accessories
Go to: Communications
Go to: Network Connections
Go to: Right click on your Internet Service Provider, or
LAN or whatever you use to get on the net.
Go to: Properities
Go to: Advanced
Go to: click the little box to enable your Firewall.
Go to: Apply, etc.

This will keep that darned little box from popping up so
you can download the Patch.

Then go on the internet:

Go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
Go to: click on #1
This takes you to the place where you download
the patch.

Click on download on the right- takes about five to six
minutes (+/-)
When the little box comes up, click on Open.

(Now this is where you may have trouble. Last night I
was able to go through the entire process and it worked
perfectly, however today I could not get on the internet
at all so I had to do a systems restore which was a
nightmare in itself) I restored my computer back to
May. But I forgot one detail, I forgot to go and re-do
the firewall protection and waloo - I got that little
devil back again). So I enabled my firewall and tried to
download the patch and I get a little box that
says "Error Report KB823980, Setup could not verify the
integrity of the file update.inf. Make sure
cyyptographic service is running on this." Whatever all
that means - but maybe you will have better luck at this
point - It worked last night for me but not today)

OK to continue = after you download the patch and all is
complete.

Go to: http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-
avert/stinger.exe

This will start as soon as you hit Go. When it comes up -
click on Scan. It will take a little while but it
cleans up all the little msblasters it can find in your
system. At the end, the files that are infected will
show in red. Yesterday it said I had 8 files infected
and all were cleared off. But since I messed up today -
I can get on the net because I enabled the firewall
protection but I cannot download the patch. The
Microsoft people told me to get an anti-virus and install
it immediately, but I did not get it today and now I am
awaiting to get through to Tech Support to help me
download the patch again.

Let me know if this helps.
Good luck to all of you.
