MS.Blast virus and auto update

I'm also having trouble installing the microsoft patch
for the lovsan virus -- keep getting the message about
making sure cryptographic service has operated. Tried
Nicholas's solution and some of my own attempts without
luck. I also can't find evidence of the file anywhere. I
downloaded the Norton worm killer they posted on Tuesday
and it didn't find the worm. But I had the shutdown
symptoms for about 2 hours Monday night.

Is it possible I got the update automatically through
automatic update and that it killed the virus already?
