Nicholas - Work around for blaster.exe

I put Nicholas in the subject because he seems to know
something about this. Anyone else who wants to jump in
is more than welcome.

A number of people are having the same problem. They
can't get to the Microsoft site to download the patch, so
while you're absolutely correct in your advice, it
doesn't seem possible. Is there a workaround that will
get us to Microsoft for the update? Can we reconfigure
something on the machine that will protect us while we go
for the real fix? MS suggests shutting down ports 4444,
69, and 135 (I've also heard 139 and 445 elsewhere), but
as usual they don't provide any links to how to do this
or any substantial explanation of the pros and cons.
Will this be enough? How do you shut down a port?
