Windows Messenger Service

I have recently been getting pop up's while on my desktop
or while I'm at a web site, from Messenger Service. They
are trying to sell me a pop up stopper to stop the pop up
they are sending me. When I X them off, I get another ad
for a Porn Site where Jennifer has installed a web cam
etc. I get about two a day. Can anyone tell me how to
disable the Messenger Service and if you think it will
stop these ads? Thank you very much...Richard....
