Maybe some people you know have adopted it. I personally know of
absolutely no one (aside from you) who uses this service outside of a
corporate environment. I still remain extremely skeptical that "many
use it".

You are right, it is false. However, I still feel that implying that
many home users actually know about this service and use it is
misleading. I would contend many more home users are ignorant about
this service and don't use it and even if they did know much about
would still have no use for it.

If you feel compelled to set the record straight about the Messenger
Service not being there solely as some kind of MS approved ad machine,
I feel it would be more accurate just to state what it does and what
it is typically used for in the corporate environment (and has been
for years before XP came out).

It's also fine just to explain what it does and say if you can
defintely see that you personally could really use this, then leave it
on. Otherwise turn it off.

What could possibly go wrong?
