For some reason, I cannot access http://www.classmates.com,
but can access every other website I can think of.
Here is what I've done to troubleshoot the problem...
1. Cleared cookies and temporary internet files, including
those for off-line browsing.
2. Disabled DHCP in DNS settings and defined primary and
secondary DNSes with settings provided by my ISP.
3. Disabled my firewall (now running again).
4. Added the site to Internet Options > Privacy > Web Sites
(Edit) > Managed Web Sites (Always Allow) to permit cookie
handling.
5. Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > Auto
Config and proxy server all unchecked (and normally are).
6. Checked LMHOSTS.SAM and HOSTS.SAM files but found no
mention of it. The HOSTS file does have the requisite
"127.0.0.1 localhost" reference.
7. Pinged the address but only received responses from
127.0.0.1. (See screen dump...)

8. Had someone resolve the actual IP address for
www.classmates.com for me and entered that address into my
browser, but received the same error as always, "The page
cannot be displayed......Cannot find server or DNS error".
9. Added the address to the list of trusted sites and
changed the security settings to default medium (instead of
custom medium). After that didn't work, I changed all
settings involving active X controls and unsigned controls
from "disable" to "prompt".
10. Downloaded and installed Mozilla 1.04. When I went to
the www.classmates.com site, an error appeared in the form
of a dialogue box that said, "The connection was refused
when attempting to contact www.classmates.com"
11. Changed pop-up and other settings within Mozilla
specific to that site.
All of this, to no avail. I'm sure I'm missing something
and don't want to resort to rebuilding the box (I'm using
Win/XP SP1, 1 GB HD space free and 640 MB of RAM.)
Any ideas?
Alexandria
