Hi Kevin,

you can't join local user account to domain. You will need new account on
domain. Then this domain account can become local admin on your XP Pro PC...

It is possible to copy all your current data from current profile to new
profile or to map your domain account to current profile...

Here is how to do it.

1) First join PC to domain (reboot)
2) Domain admin is now able to add your domain account to local admin group
on your PC
2) Logon to your PC from domain to create your new profile
3) Log off from you profile and login as local admin or some other user
(e.g. domain admin). This must not be old user or new user, but it must have
full admin rights on PC
4) Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder, where C is the
drive on which Windows XP is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the
profile you want to copy user data from. Open it and select all folders and
files (be careful, some files are hidden so you will have to unhide it
first) Select them (e.g. CTRL+A) Click Edit and Copy
5) Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\New_Username folder, where C is the
drive on which Windows XP is installed, and New_Username is the name of the
user profile that you created by logging to PC. Open it and click Edit and
Paste... File are now copied to new profiles
6) Log off the computer, and then log on as the new user.

You should have all your settings favorites, files, etc. The only thing in
my experience that is possible to lose are stored passwords (e.g. for web
sites) AND certificates. This you will have to manually export from old
profile and import into new one!
