Mike,

Here is my situation, I will use arbitrary IP addresses.

My cable modem IP address is 22.100.100.50

I am behind a Linksys router, so my internal network's address range is
192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.255

Computer A: 192.168.1.100
Computer B: 192.168.1.101
Computer C: 192.168.1.102

On Computer A running Windows XP Pro, I have created an Incoming Connection

I have configured the Linksys router to port forward Port 1723 for
192.168.1.100

Now, on my external computer (Laptop X), I set up PPTP VPN connection to
22.100.100.50 and it connects to the connection.
I run IPCONFIG and this is what shows:

Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection
IP address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

PPP adapter VPN
IP address: 192.168.1.110
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.110

I am able to ping Computer A, B, and C. But when I try to start Remote
Desktop using either computer name or IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.102). It
doesn't work.

The reason I am trying to do is because I want to be able to administer my
home network (3 computers which is behind a Linksys router) from say my
friend's house using Remote Desktop. I know you can port forward 3389 for
ONE computer which allows you to access Remote Desktop directly. But I know
you can port forward 3389 for more than internal network IP address because
how will the router whom to forwards the packets to. I figure if I VPN into
the home network first, I will actually be inside the home network and can
run Remote Desktop using their computer names or internal IP addresses.

Is my thought process incorrect or is there a better solution???

Thanks for you help.

Odell
