Install Shield Corp installer won't run in XP Home

Hello:
    After a re-install of XP Home programs which use the
install shield wizard hang without appearing anywhere
except in the process threads. I've stepped through all
the suggested fixes at installshield.com & udated the
installer engine, made sure I'm an adminsitrator, etc.. I
have no problems installing programs from the web. Any
ideas?
