administrators password

both my father law and I bought windows xp home upgrade
and were never given an adminstrators password and cannot
get ino the repair section of setup without the password-
How can we be expected to work on our systems without the
admisistrators password-this seems to be something that
microsoft keeps secret from user-Microsoft should allow
us to have our password-is it possible to figure out what
password they used or is it a forever secret?
