Openning Office attachments in Outlook Express

I work with Office 97 at work and at home. I just re-
installed all the security patches (SR-1 and SR-2, etc)
for Office 97 this evening (we had to wipe the harddrive
because of a hack. I then openned Outlook Express to
discover that the Office attachments on the e-mails that
I sent from the office this afternoon will not open. My
OS is XP home.Is there a way of telling any of these
progranms that it is okay to read these attachments?
