Local v. Domain/Active Directory Security

I have what I believe is fairly common. I am running XP
Pro on a home network. I have 4 computers connected to a
LinkSys router/switch.

I use my home machine for work and connect to the office
with VPN. My pc is joined to the office domain. I do
not logon to the domain but rather logon locally.

I have found that after joining the domain I have little
to no control over security. For example to allow my
other Win 98 machine to use the network printer requires
having it connected via VPN to the domain and my print
server machine connected to the domain to allow access to
the printer.

All I'd like to do is take back control over my local
resources. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Frustrated.

Tom
