You are not alone... I have experienced almost the exact
same thing just recently. Please contact me and maybe we
can find some answers by comparing information. Also...
look for the post I submitted today (7/3) for information
on what I have observed on the issue. But for now... I
suggest turning on your built-in firewall. This will
restrict access to your machine from any outside
intrusion from the internet. This has been my only
defense since I've discovered the access attempts on my
machine.

To turn on your built-in Firewall:

Find the "Network Connections" icon which will either be
in the Start Menu or the Control Panel.

When you've found it, click on it, and find the
connection you use to get online. You should know which
one that is... if not... I'll help with that if you
contact me.

Right click on the connection you use to get online, go
down to properties. Go to the "Advanced" Tab found along
the top of the box under the title bar. There is your
firewall. Make sure the check box is checked off and
click OK. There are different settings for the
firewall... like what ports you want open and all that.
If you don't know much about this, leave it alone.

One thing about the firewall... If you use Instant
Messengers a lot... I don't think you can transfer files
with them without opening the ports they need. Check out
more about the XP built in firewall at these sites:
