Thank you, Jupiter.
I'll go to the sites you suggest. But, how does data
become corrupted in System Restore? Norton tech support
said even they can't penetrate system restore files when
NAV detects a virus.
I recently received three emails that appeared to be from
Microsoft regarding the June, 2003 Cumulative Patch but
that actually contained the virus W32.Gibe.B@mm. NAV
quarantined the virus each time, and I reported to MS and
Symantec. Yet after that, when I opened Outlook to work
offline, a new network connection for an UOL user would
try to connect to the internet. Netzero doesn't
allow "spontaneous" connections, so I was able to delete
that connection setup.
Still, when I went to do a System Restore to a point
before receiving these three emails, I was unable to do
so. I could only restore to a point after I had received
the first of the three. This computer is brand new and
its initial restore point was June 11th. There's almost
nothing on it in terms of software save for XP.SP1 and
Office XP.SP2, and the usual peripheral drivers and CD-RW
software.
Can you shed any light for me on how System Restore files
could have become corrupted in such a short time by a
virus that was quarantined? I also ran a check from
Symantec's web site for Trojan Horses and there are none.
Please let me know.
Thanks again,
Fayette
