Can I upgrade office 97 to XP?

The license for office 97 I used at work allowed for a
second installation on my home computer. I got a new
home computer with windows XP and tried to load the
office 97. XP doesn't like it and gives me odd errors.
Can I go ahead and buy the XP office upgrade or am I
technically required to go buy the expensive "new"
version of Office XP because the installation on my new
computer is technically a third computer which may
violate the "two computer" rule attached to the license
of the office 97?

Help is much appreciated.
