I have a better sugestion...make a linux boot disk to
reset the password.
Sound complex? well...
.... It's actually not too bad. This is what you call
a "brute force" hack. Go to google and type in "NT Admin
Password". Or just go to this site:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Under the heading 'How to get it?' click on Bootdisk
Instructions & img to download. On the following page,
scroll to the Download section and click on the most
recent version. Okay.
Now you've got the boot disk img, you'll need a tool to
put that img on a floppy disk. That tool is
called 'rawwrite' and it's freeware.
Go to Google again and search for 'Rawwrite'. or go to
this site:
http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/rawwrite.htm
Download the zip and run the .exe. Find the .img file you
downloaded (and unzipped) and then put a blank floppy and
write the .img to the floppy.
Now the fun begins!
Reboot your computer with the floppy in the drive. Refer
back to the page you downloaded the img file from if
you've got questions on which options to choose. Just hit
enter. I highly doubt you'll need to load scsi drivers or
anything. It will bring up a set of choices that are
obvious. Change the user/password settings and do as you
please!
It's a very good idea to select the asterisk (*) for the
password. That blanks it out. It'll save you from having
to remember what it is later.
ps: don't forget to 'write hive values back to the
registry?'. type a 'y' to and hit enter. It'll bring you
back to a prompt when it's done.
This sounds more complex than it is. And I'm sure it's
faster than the previous suggestion! post any problems or
questions.
