Good Morning, I'm using Windows XP for first time in a
Peer to Peer environment and having trouble with setting
up rights. The scenario is this,
I have purchased a high end workstation with Xeon
processor to act as a file server(couldn't afford a Win2k
or 03), strictly to store and backup company data. This
workstation is running Windows XP Professional SP1. It
has a second Hard Drive (Drive D) which will store all
company data. I purchased four desktop systems also
running Windows XP Professional SP1. On the workstation
acting as a file server, I created user accounts within
MMC for each user accessing this system and made the
username on their workstations to be identical in
spelling and passwords. I created two groups and several
folders on the D drive. I created a folder called Users
and in MMC in the user properties I put their home
directory as D:\Users\"their username" and this created
the username subfolder within the Users folder. However
when I log in from a users desktop I can see the folder
but cannot create anything. I also went to the server and
gave the user full control over their user subfolder and
they still cannot create or do anything with in their
user directory.
So apparently I'm not good with Sharing, Rights and
Permissions, so I need a crash course on the following:

1. giving individual users full control over their
individual User folders but they cannot see or access
anyone else's folders under the user folder.

2. Creating a group and folder called accounting (which
I've done) assign the two users as members. Now how do I
set up the security so that only the people in this group
can see and access (Full Control) of this folder.

Please help? I've never been good and inherited/effective
rights and this is my downfall. Any fast responses and
assistance would be overwhelmingly appreciated.

Thank You,
Fred
