I am using Windows XP Pro and trying to connect to another
Windows XP Pro computer on the network using the Help and
Support Center.
(Click on the following:
Start;
Help and Support;
Use Tools to view your computer information...;
Advanced System information;
View information for another computer)
I then get prompted to enter the name of the computer I am
trying to connect to. After I enter the name of a computer
on the network, a page (entitled "Computer Information for
\\computername") opens up with five options (View general
system info, Find info about hardware installed, View list
of software installed etc). So far all looks good, but
here starts the mystery. When I click on one of these
links, it appears to be working, but actually the
information that is gathered and presented comes from my
own workstation. Regardless of which link I try, I hear my
own system being accessed and then I see info about my own
software, hardware, crashes etc. I have tried connecting
to several different WinXP computers in our domain and on
our local network, and with the same result. I only see
info from my own system. I have tried using IP address to
connect, but the result is the same.
Does anyone understand?
Can anyone else use this feature successfully?
Thank you!
Åse
for example "view a list of software installed on this
computer"
