Since you are using XP Home, there is an extra step you must take before you
can follow the numbered steps. Its noted right under the heading "How
toTake Ownership of a Folder" in the article you referenced, but if you are
just looking at the steps you might miss it.

"NOTE: You must be logged on to the computer using an account that has
administrative privileges. If you are running Windows XP Home Edition, in
order to have access to the Security tab, you must first start in Safe Mode
and log on with an account that has Administrative rights."

Doing that, will enable the Security tab on the properties of the folder in
XP Home (it does not show up otherwise). The Advanced button you need to
press is not the one you see when you first open the properties (that is the
Advanced General Settings). The one you want is on the Security tab, and
the text next to it will read "For special permissions of for advanced
settings, click Advanced.".

If you still do not see the Security tab, and you are in safe mode and
logged in as an administrator, that means that you do not have the NTFS file
system, so the article does not apply. If you want to check on this before
you go running all around, or simply as a sanity check, do the following.
Right click on "My Computer" in the Start Menu and select "Manage". Then,
expand "Storage" if it is not already expanded, and click on "Disk
Management". There is a column next to each drive letter that is labeled
File System. If it does not say "NTFS", then this article does not apply.
