Looking for and removing spyware is a worthwhile
enterprise, but is only effective after the fact. You
would have to do this regularly or in response to an
    infection of your computer.

You can do much to reduce your exposure to executable code
from web pages by using more restrictive security settings
for the Internet. Open the "Internet Options" control
panel applet, go to the security tab, select "Internet".
You can select a pre-rolled set of security settings, or
you can press the "Custom Level" button to make
adjustments to individual settings. For a start, try
setting the security settings to "High" and see if you
still have the browsing functionality that you need
    without the exposure.

You may already have an unwelcome program on your
computer. You need to examine the system to determine
what programs are running automatically as windows
starts. Run msconfig.exe, perhaps by entering "msconfig"
in the start/run dialog. This utility shows a variety of
system settings information. The "Startup" tab will list
the stuff that runs automatically whenever you start your
computer. If you don't recognize an item, try looking for
information about it on the Internet. (One known one that
you will not need to worry about is "mobsync". This a
    part of Internet Explorer.)
