Brian,

Just follow the directions. Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT In the
left pane, you'll see something that looks like a folder tree. These are
registry branches and sub-branches/keys. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
branch and expand it. Locate the Software branch and expand it. Continue
like this until you get to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

Once you have the WindowsUpdate sub key located and highlighted, right click
the WindowsUpdate subkey and select Permissions. Then follow the
instructions to set permissions for the Everyone group and each user listed.
This is done in Regedit.

This is the only way to correct this issue.
