The exact same thing happened to my laptop about 2 days ago. It went
into sleep mode, then wouldn't power up. I held down the power button
till it shut off, and when I restarted, I got the 'click the user name
to start' message with no user names to click. I Ctrl-Alt-Del'd to
get the login screen, but no luck there either. The 'Administrator'
login won't take the empty password, and nothing works on my user
password. After doing a bit of research, the laptop is now in the
shop, getting the hard drive copied to an external drive, which I will
use to pull the data back into the machine after the laptop is
restored/refomatted.... <sigh>
