WIN 16 Subsystem Error

Receiving the followin System Error:

The WIN 16 subsystem was unable to enter protected mode,
DOS.EXE must be in your AUTO EXEC.NT and Present in you
Path. We have a DOS Design program we have loaded onto an
XP. We cannot load other programs after installing this.
Is there a way around this without having to uninstall the
DOS and Reinstall it again?
