We are setup on Windows 2000 Server and apply some domain
policies to restrict user rights. Domain policies
override local policies. I'm not sure with Novell. We
used to be on Novell, but that was before XP. You may
have control on the server side, but you'll have to
research with Novell on that.

All of our software is installed locally. We do have
some things like ClipArt that is stored on the server,
but have students setup to view these specific folders
only...again a Windows 2000 Server function.

Pulling data from the server should be a server rights
issue that needs to be resolved instead of on the
desktop. We do this a lot and have no problems with
access to folders/files students have rights to see.

Sometimes you do not have to make the students Power
Users over the whole PC, but just on that particular EXE.
Right click on the properties and change the security.
Sometimes it works on just the EXE...sometimes it needs
to be the whole program folder.

As far as workstation security...this can be a
combination of local and domain policy...again I am not
as familiar with Novell to tell you that one.
