Your issue is probably one of NTFS permissions.
The Read-Only checkbox on folders is not the attribute
of the folder, but a switch used to set the attribute on
contained files. When it is done doing its thing it is
returned to the intermediate display state.
To actually check and change the read-only attribute
on a folder you must use the attrib command.
