<sigh> The OP said that he was using IIS FTP, and that he wanted to secure
his FTP site, so that passwords were not sent in the clear. One option, that
you did not mention, is to use a third-party server with some form of

I'm trying very hard to see what I wrote that you read as arrogant. Perhaps
because I used the word "ignorant"? You missed an obvious solution; that
implies that you are unaware of that solution, and that is all that "ignorant"
means. It means that there is something you do not know.

If you want to claim "golden oldie" status by mentioning ARPANet, I'm
surprised that you engage in top-posting with no trimming; if you want to
engage in polite discourse, then I suggest you avoid starting in with lines
like "FTP? Secure? Bu-wa-ha-ha-ha-ha!" - even with a "<g>" tacked on at the
end, you can hardly claim the high ground when it comes to politeness.
