One should never run IIS without using NTFS, whether the
site is or is not extended with the Sharpoint/FrontPage server
extensions. The article you mention is old. NTFS is supported
by NT, W2k, and XP but not by the Dos-family Windows versions.
Convert to NTFS and then install the server extensions.
After these are installed use the interface to extend your site
if it did not get extended during the extensions installation.
If you install the Sharepoint rather than the FrontPage server
extensions, then be certain that you update the MSDE that
gets installed immediately (in fact, download the SQL service
to do this before you install so that you do not need to connect
to the network until this is updated).
Go to microsoft.com/downloads and search with keyword SQL
(to get the 70 meg SQL2kdesksp3.exe for MSDE if you install this)
After your server extensions are installed, visit Office Update to
get them updated.
