Roger Rules !

Thanks Roger, I still cannot map all of what you said about the DOS
command "control userpasswords2" to what I can fill in on all the
boxes the GUI unfolds to - remember, the problem is on an XP-Home
machine but maybe if I upgrade...

Specifically I can't find "account" - other than "User Name" the
choices I uncovered are "Full Name", "Group Membership" and
"Description"

However, since I didn't know about this command before
I'll be learning a lot about it on the pages that Googled up when
I searched for it - and that's fun for me.

Most importantly, you solved the problem that led me to my
posted question. I had forgotten that when all else fails,
LMHOSTS saves the day. Just enabling it in the problem
XP-Home PC made the problem go away - thanks again.

For anyone reading this who is curious about LMHOSTS,
do a search for the sample file on your machine, it's
called LMHOSTS.SAM

After you build one with a text editor, suck it into XP via
Control Panel/Networking/ right-click Local Area Conn/
open the properties of the TCP/IP protocall/ hit Advanced/WINS/
where you can enable and import LMHOSTS. Rebooting not needed

On Win 98 and ME PCs just stick it in c:\WINDOWS and reboot.

Cheers, QE
