I plan to reformat and reinstall WinXP Pro on my desktop, but I have a
number of encrypted folders, on various drives, that I would like to
keep intact.
I originally encrypted the files with backup plans in place, which
essentially secures the files against hard drive theft, etc. and I can
recover them from non Windows encrypted backups, but that would be a
real pain.
I have browsed the WinXP help files, but only get more confused. I am
a bit like the driver of a concept car with no idea of what's under
the hood. I would like to get better informed about EFS, generally, as
well as get a specific "recipe" for transferring the credentials that
allow me to access the files.
On a similar note, I have a laptop with XP Pro with its own set of
encrypted files. I network the aforementioned desktop and share files
back and forth and can "see" the encrypted files on the other
computer, but they are quite scrambled -- even though the login is the
same for each computer. What can I do?
