Hi,
I replied earlier as to my having the very same problem,
but with a different program's Registry Key. I was just
FINALLY able to get rid of this rogue key !!
One friend suggested booting into Safe Mode and running
Regclean, which I did, but it did NOT correct the
problem. Since Iwas in Safe mode, I decided to run my
RESPLENDANT Registrar utility I had DL'd and installed a
couple days ago while reading of this problem on another
support site. Anyhow, while running Resplendant, I
checked permissions again (still in Safe Mode), and it
reported that one of my OTHER User Names had full
Permissions to this particular key. Now I have almost
never even used this other user name since its mostly for
my kids, and I surely never even tried to install this
program while using this other user name.
BUT, I logged off Administrator, and logged back in under
this other user name, went into Regdit, and tried to
Delete this Rogue Key, and "POOF" away it went !!!!!
I exited Safe Mode and rebooted to make sure I wasn't
seeing something. IT IS GONE !!!
I have to believe that WIn XP (Pro in my case) has a
rogue bug that somehow causes these Rogue Registry Keys
to lose their way, and in doing that, it prevents XP from
from re-asserting proper ownership, permissions and the
like... Whether you are logged in as Administrator or
not...
HOPE this helps !! Please let me know
Dave
