Regrettably, Gator is a fairly popular download manager which some sites use
to download files. Thses sites I try to avoid.
It mught be best to run AD-aware once a week, or after a download, or after
you might have accidently accepted somethiing you don't want.
If you run Zone Alarm Pro, it has a good pop-up killer.
You may find a pop-up killer for free at pcmag.com or cnet.com.
