I have a 3 machine network:
A: WinXP Pro laptop
B: WinXP Pro desktop
C: Win2K Server (domain controller)
When I try to access the admin share (//machineA/C$) or explicit share
(//machineA/share/), I get an error stating the user has not been granted
logon access to the machine. None of the machines can see any resources
(either admin shares or explicit shares) on the WinXP machines. However,
the two WinXP machines can see the same type resources on the Win2K server.
I've disabled "Use simple file sharing" in the Folder Options dialog and
have set the "Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts"
in the Local Policy to "Classic" from "Guest only".
I do not want to enable the Guest account on these WinXP machines and grant
it access to root drives...
If it helps, I'm being prompted for a local account on the machine I'm
trying to access. It's like neither of the WinXP machines will authenticate
a domain account... however, I'm certain I'm using a domain account. I can
see the computers in the network neighboorhood, but none of their shares.
IPConfig showed the Node Type as Unknown (but after making a change to the
registry to make it Broadcast, still no change in the problem).
Any ideas? I'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance,
AC
