Problem: I couldn't access Recovery Console in Windows XP Home
Edition. I got error message that said something like "The Password
Is Not Valid," and asked for the administrator password, even though I
had no password established.
I solved this problem as I documented below, but one more fact that I
forgot to mention, is that I had tried a few days earlier to solve the
problem by downloading and installing Service Pack 1 (SP1).
Microsoft said at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/ServicePacks/Windows/XP/SP1FixList.asp
that SP1 would fix this problem, but it didn't. The above link is a
list of the bugs in Windows XP that SP1 is supposed to fix.
I'm angry with Microsoft for documenting this bug in Knowledge Base
article 308402, and then not telling us how to download the hot fix.
I spent many hours trying to find a phone number to call Microsoft's
Support. They only led me to phone numbers of OEM's. Thanks to
Carmen and others in this newsgroup, my probem is solved.
