IPC$ password required for Win 98

I am using Win XP Pro. When using "simple file sharing,"
everyone in the LAN could access a shared folder on my
computer without using a password. Now, I have disabled
simple file sharing, and given read rights to
the "Everyone" group for the shared folder. Also,
the "Guest" account is enabled. XP and 2000 computers can
still access the share without using a password, and there
is no user account set up for them on my computer.
However, a Win98 computer is now asked for an IPC$
password. What has changed since I disabled simple file
sharing that would prevent Win98 from getting to the
share? Is Win98 simply unable to logon as a Guest? And
is there any way to give Win98 access to the share without
a password, aside from setting up a matching user account
on both my computer and the Win98 machine?

Thanks in advance,
Mark
