Running XP without a password

I personally *do* use a password (XP boots straight into my a/c) but have
heard comments that running with a blank one can cause several unrelated &
subtle consequences. Someone complained that their Tray icons kept
disappearing & a possible cure was to enable a password.
Any comments?
