JP,

I think I have an idea what you are getting at. First things first........., I'm
going to assume your router is set to hand out ip addresses thru DHCP. On both
computers, you should have the following services and protocols installed at
minimum: client for windows networks, TCP/IP, files and printer sharing service.
Double-click TCP/IP and make sure they are set to obtain IP address and DNS
server addresses automatically. Click ok all the way out. Second, on both
computers, you need to set up the same user accounts and passwords. Reboot both
computers at this stage. Open a command prompt window and type 'ping computer
name' then enter. If it returns the computer name and IP address of the computer
you just pinged, along with successful ttl settings, then you are now able to
share your folders and files. Right-click any folder(s) you want to share and
then you can use the network browse list to find those shares and map them
accordingly.

I don't think I am explaining my problem too well...Let me give some
more specifics and what I think I want:

The Router is a Linksys w/built-in Firewall. One system is XP Home
and one is XP Pro. I cannot "ping" them so I guess the firewall is
blocking and not sure how to configure.

I hooked up a laptop (win98) and was able to "ping" it but, could not
get the folders to be shared.

BTW, one on the units (xp home) does not have the Simple Sharing
option but the other one does.

Any recommendations are appreciated.
