SP1 can apparently corrupt Internet Explorer-happened to
me and lots of others. Many Newsgroups articles on the
subject. Don't bother with the ones that tell you to
adjust your internet security settings, that's not the
problem. My research suggests that reinstalling SP1 may
be the solution. You won't be able to get to Windows
Update to do it, but there is a link below that will
allow you to download SP1. I'm still trying to solve this
with my machine, but here are a few things I would try.

1) go to add/remove programs and uninstall SP1 (only
works if SP1 comes up on the list of programs)

2) go to the following URL;

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepa
cks/sp1/sp1lang.asp

Download SP1, open file in My Computer or Windows
Explorer to begin setup. Install SP1 again.

I'm having problems with the installation as it appears
that my Cryptographic Service has been corrupted, but
perhaps you will be lucky and won't have this problem.
If you get a message involving your Cryptographic Service
when you are in setup, try the URL below for a possible
solution (did not work for me)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;326815

3) get SP1 on a CD and try to install it from the CD

Any other ideas as you try and solve this, please share.
