The Windows 2000/XP Offline Files feature uses what is
called "Client-Side Caching" (CSC) to perform offline
synchronization. Within CSC certain file types are
excluded by default in order to prevent file conflicts
and data loss. Default excluded file types include PST
and MDB files.
When you try to synchronize a directory that contains any
of the excluded file types, you get the error
message "Files of This Type Cannot Be Made Available
Offline".
In Windows 2000, there was a great kbase article (252509)
that described how to modify the group policy object to
change which file types would be excluded from CSC.
However, there is no specific kbase article for how to
chance the excluded file types in Windows XP, and making
modifications to the group policy per kbase article
252509 doesn't have any affect.
Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to
reconfigure CSC to allow me to sync MDB and other files
or offline use?
Thanks!
