I'm sorry, but Windows XP doesn't have passwords for shared disks and
folders.

XP Home Edition uses "Simple File Sharing", which is even simpler than
what's available in Windows 95/98/Me. It has practically no security,
but you can create a hidden share and only tell selected people about
it. I've written a web page with details:

Windows XP Simple File Sharing

XP Professional allows you to disable Simple File Sharing and use its
very powerful access control list feature. Ron Lowe and I have
written a web page with details:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm

If you'd like to see password-protected shares (or any other new
feature) in Windows XP, go to this site and let Microsoft know:

I've already done it on this issue. Perhaps, if enough of us do it,
they'll change the product.
