It's the exact same way as in Windows 2000.
With your local Administrator account:

Open Administrative Tools->Computer Management.

Find Local Users and Groups and expand it.
Click on "Groups".
Find Administrators on the right side of the window and
double-click it.
Click "Add"
Enter your domain account in the form of either
MYDOMAINNAME\MYACCOUNTNAME or
Myaccountname@my.activedirectory.domain (the first
version is more likely what you want).

Click ok.
Log off.
Log back on using your domain account.

You will now have local Admin privs on the machine.

Since XP is based on Windows 2000, it is a bit of a
difference from 95/98/ME, but the majority of options are
in the same place as in Windows 2000.
