User accounts problem

I've just tried to set up user accounts on a new computer
for myself and members of my family. Problem is that no
one can log into them. After one enters the password, a
message says "logging in" then immediately switches
to "logging off." I can only get on the thing as an
administrator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
