Using Windows Explorer, I can telling it to remove the
Read Only attribute from files & folders, and it seems to
work. However, it does not. The Read Only attribute does
not go away. Doesn't matter if I do this one-at-a-time or
a whole folder structure at once.

I am the Administrator and there are no other users on my
system. The files & folders that refuse to loose the Read
Only attributes were those copied from a CD.

That may have something to do with it, but the question
remains: How can I remove the Read Only attributes?

Thanks
